- Projects Demonstrate Company's Industry Leading Expertise In
Mechanical, Electrical and Facilities Services -
NORWALK, CONNECTICUT, December 5, 2007 - EMCOR Group, Inc. (NYSE: EME), a Fortune 500® leader in mechanical and electrical construction, energy infrastructure and facilities services for a diverse range of businesses globally, announced a number of recent contracts for clients in the Detroit metropolitan area. These recent contracts continue the Company's history of building, powering, servicing and protecting sophisticated and essential systems for virtually every type of facility in the region.
The Detroit metropolitan area has long been an integral part of EMCOR's national footprint, a tradition that is continued with these recent contracts; the Company looks forward to continuing to provide industry leading services and expertise to one of the country's most important business markets.
EMCOR and its Detroit area subsidiaries provide a full range of sophisticated services to local businesses and institutions including comprehensive mechanical services, electrical services, facilities services, energy services, fire protection services, government services, testing services, technology services, and security services.
EMCOR's recent project awards in the Detroit metropolitan area include:
AM General (Livonia, MI) - PACE Mechanical, an EMCOR subsidiary, installed new rooftop HVAC units for this national defense contractor's expanding vehicle laboratory, which will accommodate the facility's increase in personnel and lab process sophistication. Pace Mechanical was uniquely suited for the job, due to proven skills on complicated helicopter rigging projects.
Chrysler Axle Plant (Marysville, MI) - PACE Mechanical was also recently awarded a design build contract for the HVAC, plumbing and process work for Chrysler's new Axle Plant that is intended to keep the Company current with axle and drive train technology well into the future.
Chrysler Corporation (Detroit, MI) - Dynalectric Company of Michigan, an EMCOR subsidiary, is responsible for the major power distribution, plus lighting, fire alarm, energy management systems, and mechanical control connections and debug at Chrysler's Jefferson North plant, a 375,000 square foot addition to a manufacturing facility where they make Jeep Grand Cherokees.
DTE Energy (Detroit, MI) - Dynalectric Company in Michigan has also been awarded the site lighting and lobby renovation at the DTE Energy's headquarters in downtown Detroit, part of a multi-million dollar facelift of their campus and an enhancement to Downtown Detroit's modernization project. Dynalectric Michigan's scope of work includes installing an outdoor amphitheater, a large pond and fountain featuring LED lights at the entrance to their new 2-story glass atrium and lobby (which is going to be renovated and extended), and a rebuild of the parking areas.
General Motors Powertrain Lab One (Pontiac, MI) - EMCOR subsidiary Shambaugh & Son designed, fabricated, and installed the fire protection systems for this new automotive research and development facility, which consists of 85 fuel test cells and 35 non-fuel test cells supported by its own tank farm and central energy plant. The new facility consolidates four engineering and five test lab facilities under one roof, making it the headquarters for the Powertrain Group on GM's Pontiac campus. Shambaugh's scope of work for the project consisted of designing, fabricating, and installing 10 wet automatic sprinkler systems, two dry automatic sprinkler systems, two high pressure water mist systems, 5,500 sprinkler heads, 11 miles of sprinkler pipe, and a 2,500 gpm diesel fire pump house.
In addition, EMCOR PACE Mechanical is performing the Mechanical Process Piping work at GM's new Dynamometer engine test facility. This large test facility of 85 test cells includes cells that simulate extreme outdoor conditions as low as -55 degrees F. The facility is intended to keep GM current with engine technology well into the future.
Wayne County Airport (Detroit, MI) - EMCOR subsidiary S.A. Comunale Co. installed all underground and above ground fire protection systems for the new 800,000-square-foot Gate 26 Terminal, part of the airport's North Terminal redevelopment project. The project consists of approximately 6,000 sprinkler heads, 3500 feet of underground water main, 34 wet automatic sprinkler systems, two dry systems, and approximately 15 miles of piping. In addition, the company is installing the fire protection systems for the Transportation Security Administration's 90,000-square-foot expansion at the airport.
Stephen M. Ross Business School (Ann Arbor, MI) - S.A. Comunale is also installing all fire protection systems for this new seven-story, state-of-the-art education building for the University of Michigan. This includes over 3000 sprinkler heads, six wet standpipes, one dry system, 9 wet systems and a fire pump. The challenge of this project is coordinating and installing complex mechanical systems in a large building with limited space at the site. There is no on site parking and all material must be delivered and installed, as there is no storage available for material. Coordination has been extremely challenging to ensure all the mechanical systems fit and function as specified in very complex building design.
