Christ The King, SOUTH BEND, IN

VALUE DELIVERED

More comfortable learning environment, improved energy efficiency, lower energy and operating costs.

SCOPE OF WORK

Havel converted a 1952 steam heating system into a modern, hot water and chilled water mechanical system with a new piping distribution system. The company also added DDC controls and installed new lighting.

BACKGROUND

Christ the King is a Catholic church and school in South Bend, IN. The school has approximately 500 children in grades K-8.

OBJECTIVES

To replace a 1952 steam boiler.

SOLUTIONS

Havel provided a value-engineered solution, which included a utility analysis of the building, an operational analysis of past expenses, and a cashflow analysis with recommendations. As a result, the project grew from an $80,000 steam boiler replacement to a nearly $800,000 system redesign and replacement. Though the school thought it couldn’t afford this, Havel demonstrated that the project would be self funding, paying for itself over a 10-year term. Havel guaranteed that the savings would be achieved .
