Value Delivered
During his more than 20 years with Shambaugh, Rob has become one of the nation’s foremost fire protection authorities and an active participant in the industry. In addition to bringing extensive fire protection expertise to his client, he also oversees Shambaugh’s operations, from planning and safety to fabrication and fleet management; plans and directs mission critical projects; and develops highly effective business relationships with national contractors and end users.
Expertise
Rob’s construction industry experience began at the grassroots level. Starting as a truck driver, he held dispatch, fabrication shop manager, and purchasing positions. He joined Shambaugh as a journeyman, later becoming a foreman and then, superintendent of field operations. During this time, he built strong working relationships with his clients. As their ‘trusted advisor’ these are relationships have continued during his career as an executive.
Over the years, Rob has assisted such major global and domestic clients as Kraft, General Motors, Proctor & Gamble, Ford, Safeway, Solo Cup, Chrysler, TNT Logistics, and Sysco Foods, among others, with the design, installation, and maintenance of fire protection systems ranging from $100 to $7 million. He also works directly with developers such as ProLogis, Panattoni Construction, and D.P. Development to name a few.
Since 1998, Rob has served on the National Fire Sprinkler Association’s (NFSA) Engineering and Standards Committee. He is also a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and serves on its sprinkler system installation criteria, and electrical power generating plants committees. Knowledge gained from these activities helps him keep clients and Shambaugh’s engineering staff up to date with regard to new directions and developments in NFPA and Factory Mutual (FM) Global fire protection standards, e.g. NFPA #13 Installation & Sprinkler Systems. In addition, he works with organizations, such as Underwriter’s Laboratory, FM Global, and major manufacturers, to research, develop, and bring to market new and more effective fire protection products and systems.
Rob is a member of the International Cold Storage Contractors Association, to which he periodically makes presentations on key fire protection developments. He is also a member of the Building Contractors Association of Northeast Indiana and serves on the board of the Northeast Indiana Construction Alliance.
Certified as a senior engineering technician by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (N.I.C.E.T.), Rob has completed a four-year sprinkler fitter apprenticeship. He is also an NFSA-accredited productivity specialist and has been trained in the installation and application of special hazards, halon, CO2, deluge, proteomatic, and wet and dry sprinkler systems. OSHA certified, he has completed the pipe II management course at Indiana-Purdue University.
