EMCOR Group, Inc. Announces New Energy Services Contracts Across a Range of Services, Technologies, Sectors, and Clients
EMCOR Energy Services’ Projects Reflect Expertise In and Growing Need for Alternative Energy Sources and Resource Efficiencies
NORWALK, CONNECTICUT, November 2, 2006 – EMCOR Energy Services, a subsidiary of EMCOR Group, Inc. (NYSE: EME), a Fortune 500® leader in mechanical and electrical construction, energy infrastructure and facilities services for a diverse range of businesses globally, announced that it has begun work on several innovative new energy-related projects and long term assignments for clients in both the private and public sector. These projects feature the latest technological developments in renewable fuel sources, alternative energy generation, and the assessment and management of efficiency-based programs and technologies, highlighting the Company’s expertise in providing broad-based energy-related services, management and solutions.
Most significant of the recent contract awards announced are two waste-to-energy projects that will upgrade landfill gas (LFG)---a byproduct of the decay process of organic matter in solid waste landfills---to meet the high quality standards of interstate pipelines serving the natural gas market. Utilizing advanced cleaning and compression technologies and EMCOR’s expertise in designing, building and maintaining the systems that convert LFG to usable gas, these projects will provide both environmental and economic benefits using a fuel that significantly reduces greenhouse gases while producing economic alternatives to conventional supply
“There is no doubt that the escalating demand being placed on an already outdated and over-stressed power grid is increasingly causing grave concern throughout organizations where strategic imperatives, such as life safety and business continuity, are dependent upon uninterrupted power. With rising concern about energy sources, alternatives such as LFG are being utilized because they are reliable, economically competitive and proven energy resources,” said Frank T. MacInnis, Chairman and CEO of EMCOR. “We believe that LFG, in particular, represents a tremendous opportunity for the future where, according to the Environmental Protection Agency’s Landfill Methane Outreach Program, there are still more than 600 landfills that could be developed, offering a potential gas flow capacity of over 280 billion cubic feet per year.”
EMCOR’s new energy projects include:
Greentree Landfill Gas Company (Kersey, PA) – The scope for EMCOR includes designing and constructing a gas cleaning and compression facility, an eight-mile pipeline, and a blending and compression station at the connection to National Fuel Gas Company’s 700PSI interstate gas pipeline.
Imperial Landfill Gas Company (Imperial, PA) – The scope for EMCOR includes designing and constructing a gas cleaning and compression facility, a four-mile pipeline, and a blending and compression station at the connection to National Fuel Gas Company’s pipeline.
Both of the above projects focus on the extraction, cleaning, concentration and transportation of “green” gas produced by the landfills.
Johnson & Johnson (New Brunswick, New Jersey) – EMCOR has been awarded a contract to perform EPC services for a new Johnson & Johnson Combined Heat & Power plant (CHP) in New Jersey.
Pitney Bowes (Domestic US) – EMCOR has been awarded a contract to performenergy assessments of 20 of Pitney Bowes’ U.S. locations including its data, training and light manufacturing facilities.
Southern California Edison (Southern CA) – Southern California Edison has increased the scope of EMCOR’s current, three-year contract providing field inspection and verification services for its commercial high efficiency lighting program.
San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (San Francisco, CA) – EMCOR was selected by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission to evaluate and manage a wide range of demand-side and conservation projects for the City, including a project to evaluate, develop, and manage renewable energy generation projects. Applicable technologies include alternative generation projects that utilize photovoltaics, fuel cells, wind, wave and tidal power. EMCOR will provide engineering, project development and construction management services under two, five-year contracts.
“Given the enormous energy related challenges faced by organizations and the aging energy infrastructure, EMCOR is increasingly being asked by both private and public sector customers to assess, design, install and maintain energy related solutions that are critical to cost effective and environmentally responsible operations,” stated Gene Martin, CEO, EMCOR Energy Services, Inc. “Predictable and reliable energy service will continue to be the lifeblood of a productive business, and EMCOR is uniquely positioned to understand and implement proactive, competitive life cycle solutions to meet our customers’ needs.
