Value Delivered
By driving Kilgust's commitment to zero incidents and injuries, Brian helps ensure the safety of the company's employees, while eliminating the project disruptions that can prevent on-time, on-budget completion. His responsibilities include developing, updating and implementing the company's safety policies and procedures, as well as delivering employee safety training. In addition, he oversees job site inspections, incident investigations and insurance claims handling. He also maintains the company's safety manual. Since he joined the company, Kilgust has been the Wisconsin Council of Safety's 2004 Grand Award winner and a finalist in 2002, 2003 and 2005. Furthermore, the firm's OSHA incident rate has declined by more than 80 percent and its workmen's compensation costs by 85 percent. The company's 418,000 consecutive hours (approximately 728 days) of no lost time represents a 92 percent reduction in its lost time rate.

But safety isn't Brian's only concern. He also ensures that Kilgust has the kind of people who can provide expert, high-quality client service. In addition to working with the local unions on trade manpower-related issues, he administers the company's non-union health benefits, provides human resources-related regulatory training and oversees employee conduct investigations.

Expertise
Before joining Kilgust in 1999, Brian spent a year as a safety engineer at a steel foundry, where he gained extensive experience in employee training, inspections and audits, and industrial hygiene testing. Since taking his present position, he has developed specific expertise in lockout/tagout procedures, fall protection, material handling, confined space training, hazard communication and the use of personal protective equipment.

Brian holds a bachelor's degree in occupational safety from the University of Wisconsin-WhiteWater. He is also OSHA 10- and 30-hour certified and has earned his construction site supervisor certification from the National Center for Construction Education and Research. An alumni member of the University of Wisconsin-WhiteWater student safety organization, he is also a member of the EMCOR safety committee, the National Safety Council and the Wisconsin Council of Safety. He is a charter member of the Southeastern Safety Council.

The Personal Side
In addition to serving as a volunteer coach for a local boys' high school volleyball team, Brian enjoys hunting, fishing, baseball and golf. He is also an avid University of Wisconsin Badgers, Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers fan.
