Value Delivered

As president, Dave ensures that Kilgust upholds the highest standards of accountability to its primary constituencies, including its customers, employees, and EMCOR parent. He’s responsible for setting the firm’s strategic course and integrating the company’s divisions for high-performance operation and high-quality customer care. He also oversees the valuable relationships with other contractors and distributors regarding the company’s fabricated ductwork, pipe, and fittings business

Expertise

Dave began his mechanical contracting career during high school, when he worked for an uncle in the residential HVAC business. After high school, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he studied engineering for three years before accepting an invitation to participate in Kilgust's sheet metal apprenticeship program. Upon completion of the program, he became the company's shop foreman with responsibility for the facility's overall management and the sale of fabrication products. With a successful track record in leadership, he later became one of the company's owners.

Dave's extensive fabrication expertise has made him especially proficient in working with local contractors on commercial, educational, industrial, and other projects. When these companies need fabricated parts -  but don't have the facilities to produce them - Dave helps them better understand their project's plans and specifications, assess the fabrication requirements, and identify the most timely and cost-effective installation procedures. Once the fabricated parts have been produced, Dave ensures delivery to the client with CAD drawings that identify each part's location by number. This simplifies installation and helps the client complete in a timely and cost-effective manner what would otherwise have been a complex and difficult - if not impossible - undertaking.

In addition to his apprenticeship certification, Dave enjoys keeping his knowledge up to date by attending regular FMI and other seminars on such topics as productivity, job site management, and leadership development.

An active member of the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association (SMACNA), Dave currently sits on the national board and is board president-elect for it's Wisconsin organization. He is also on the specialty contractors' board of Associated General Contractors (AGC) and a member of the Mechanical Contractors Association (MCA). Furthermore, he is a past president of the Madison Sheet Metal/Mechanical Association, where he sits on the negotiating board for both sheet metal and pipefitting. He is a trustee for Wisconsin's state health and pension funds, and a member of the state's sheet metal apprenticeship board.

The Personal Side

Dave and his wife have three children, two daughters and a son. When not at work, he enjoys golfing, fishing, and hunting. He is also president and an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church.
