EMCOR Group, Inc. Announces Over $200 Million in New Healthcare Projects for Leading Providers Nationwide

NORWALK, CONNECTICUT, May 10, 2007 - EMCOR Group, Inc. (NYSE: EME), a Fortune 500® leader in mechanical and electrical construction, energy infrastructure and facilities services for a diverse range of businesses globally, announced it has begun work on a number of new projects in the healthcare sector. The projects, which include construction and service work at hospitals, clinics, diagnostic and research facilities nationwide, demonstrate EMCOR’s continued expertise in the growing healthcare industry.

In 2006 EMCOR companies worked on 169 projects in the healthcare and biotechnology industries. In addition, the Company’s first quarter 2007 project backlog included $359 million in healthcare projects, accounting for 9.3 percent of total backlog.

 

EMCOR’s new healthcare projects include:

 

The Johns Hopkins Hospital (Baltimore, MD) – EMCOR subsidiaries Poole & Kent—North and S.A. Comunale Co. have been awarded contracts relating to the mechanical construction as well as the design and installation of fire protection systems for two connected 15-story tower clinical buildings and the new main entry for the hospital.  This project is the nation’s largest healthcare project under construction and the most ambitious redevelopment in Johns Hopkins’ 117-year history.  This 1.5 million square foot medical facility will interconnect to the recently constructed Weinberg Building to form a new 560 bed clinical facility encompassing the Children’s Tower and the Adult Critical Care Tower.  The mechanical contract awarded to Poole & Kent---North includes installation of medical gas outlets, custom HVAC units and piping, plumbing (including sanitary and medical air piping and fixtures), and 3.5 million pounds of sheet metal for the construction and installation of the HVAC ductwork.   The fire protection contract awarded to S.A. Comunale Co. involves the design, fabrication, and installation of over 15,000 sprinkler heads and 34 miles of pipe.

 

Philips Medical Systems (Andover, MA) – EMCOR will manage various aspects of the ordering, site analysis, logistics, startup processes, and all corrective and planned maintenance service activities for Philips Medical Systems’ Chilled Water Services Program at 1800 facilities. Philips Medical Systems is a global leader in diagnostic imaging systems, healthcare information technology solutions, and patient monitoring and cardiac devices. EMCOR’s national network of operating companies will coordinate and perform the work.

 

Texas Children’s Hospital (Houston, TX) – EMCOR subsidiary Gowan, Inc., which has been working for Texas Children’s Hospital of The Texas Medical Center for 25 years, has most recently been contracted to perform the core mechanical HVAC and ventilation work for the vertical extension of the Feign Research Laboratory in the Texas Medical Center.  The work involves: the relocation and extension of the existing roof equipment, which includes biohazard exhaust and ventilation fans; the addition of core mechanical equipment and the vertical utility systems within the building.

 

Clarion Arnett Hospital (Lafayette, IN) – EMCOR subsidiary Shambaugh & Son has been awarded a project for the engineering and installation of the plumbing, medical gas, HVAC piping and equipment, and temperature controls in this new six-story, 440,000 square-foot hospital and its central utility plant.

 

All Children’s Hospital (St. Petersburg, FL) – EMCOR subsidiary Poole & Kent of Florida has been awarded the contract for the Central Energy Plant serving a new 675,000-square-foot patient tower of All Children’s Hospital. The project will consist of 4,500 tons of cooling equipment with an additional 1,500 tons to be added in the future; 42,000 pounds per hour steam capacity; and extensive distribution piping throughout the City of St. Petersburg.

 

National Naval Medical Center (Bethesda, MD) – As previously announced, as part of the contract award by the U. S. Navy, the Government Services group of EMCOR Facilities Services will provide on-site facilities services for the entire National Naval Medical Center (NNMC) complex, comprised of 88 buildings occupied by 4,500 staff. Scope of work includes the day-to-day maintenance of the facilities, including plumbing, electrical, structural, HVAC, and other site technical services.   A team of 50 EMCOR technicians will be stationed on-site to perform facilities work at NNMC, one of the primary treatment centers for wounded military returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
