John's clients depend on him to keep their facilities operating at consistently high-performance levels needed to meet demanding requirements. His responsibilities cover all EMCOR managed U.S. Department of State facilities, NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and the new U.S. Census Bureau headquarters, as well as the division's General Services Administration projects. Overall, he and his team operate and maintain facilities of more than 6-million square feet of space. He meets with clients and works with project managers to ensure successful contract performance.  John negotiates collective bargaining agreements. His efforts include resolving all technical and operational issues, while adhering to project budgets and financial forecasts. He is also involved in EMCOR's Green Building and LEED certification objectives.

 

Expertise
John developed extensive construction, project management, and operations and maintenance expertise during 22-years of service in the U.S. Marine Corps. His final assignment was the Facilities Maintenance Officer for the Marine Corps' training and education campus. His responsibilities covered all personnel, fiscal and material resources needed to operate, maintain and improve 7.4-million square feet of facilities space, 97 miles of roads, 15 bridges and 200 miles of utility distribution/collection systems, as well as all water treatment, sewage treatment, central heating plants and 60,000 acres of grounds maintenance.   Throughout his career, he commanding various engineer units overseas and in the United States. He led a major building construction and renovation, bridge renovation and road repair effort that required relocating via rail, truck and ship, personnel, associated heavy equipment and a $1-million inventory of construction supplies. He served as an airfield facilities maintenance operations officer for a 10.8-million-square-foot facility with 33,000 linear feet of runway.

 

Following his military service, John joined DynCorp Technical Services as a utilities system manager. During his tenure there, he managed the operations and maintenance of utilities generation and distribution/collection for a major US Army installation, helped implement the MAXIMO computerized work order system, enrolled his organization as a sponsor in Virginia's Department of Labor Apprenticeship Program and served on a team that successfully completed ISO 9002 quality registration.

 

John holds a Bachelor of Naval Science from the University of Idaho, a Master of Science from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, and a graduate certificate in Global Telecommunications from Capitol College. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Engineer Officers' Advanced Course and the Defense Systems Management College. He holds BOMI's Facilities Management Administrator (FMA) and NCMA's Certified Professional Contracts Manager (CPCM) designations.

 

The Personal Side
John and his wife, Jayne, have two grown children, Sarah and Bryan. An avid skier, John is a Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA)-certified ski instructor.  He also serves his fellow Marines as Chairman Emeritus of the Marine Executive Association.
