BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, October 1, 2009 - EMCOR Group, Inc. (NYSE: EME), a Fortune 500® leader in mechanical and electrical construction, energy infrastructure and facilities services for a diverse range of businesses, is proud to announce that its Poole & Kent Corp. subsidiary will be rallying at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD on Thursday October 1 at 7:30am ET in a "Call to Action" in support of Breast Cancer screening and awareness. As part of EMCOR's "Protect Yourself" campaign, two hundred Poole and Kent employees involved in the project will don Pink EMCOR Hard Hats and form themselves into the shape of a human pink ribbon, the international symbol of breast cancer awareness.
EMCOR President & COO, Tony Guzzi, will present official EMCOR Pink Hard Hats to the CEO & Dean of The Johns Hopkins Medical Faculty, Dr. Edward D. Miller, and to the President of The Johns Hopkins Hospital & Health System, Mr. Ronald R. Peterson. As part of the special ceremony, Poole & Kent employees will then remove their regular hard hats and replace them with the official EMCOR Pink Hard Hat in a "Call to Action" for millions of women and men to "Protect Yourself" through Breast Cancer screening and awareness.
Poole & Kent was awarded a contract for The Johns Hopkins Clinical Building redevelopment project in 2007 and has been on-site since that time, installing the mechanical and plumbing systems for the project---one of the nation's largest healthcare projects under construction.
"We are very excited about our participation in this EMCOR initiative," said Adam Snavely, CEO of Poole & Kent. "While working on the project, our employees wear hard hats on a daily basis for personal protection, and we are proud of their commitment to wear a pink hard hat for the month of October to raise awareness of the disease that affects so many lives. As a Company that has built its reputation on being actively engaged in the concerns of our industry and our community, it's gratifying to demonstrate our support for breast cancer screening and awareness - standing with our dedicated employees, clients and partners."
Other EMCOR subsidiaries throughout the D.C. and Baltimore area will also be wearing EMCOR Pink Hard Hats throughout the month of October in support of EMCOR's "Protect Yourself" campaign: EMCOR Government Services, EMCOR Services Combustioneer, and S.A. Comunale.
Among the attendees at the event will be Laurie Yori, Poole & Kent Assistant Project Manager at The Johns Hopkins project, who is a proud breast cancer survivor. Among other things, Laurie took part in the Hershey's Tour de Pink Bike Ride benefiting the Young Survival Coalition and coordinated an awareness and fund-raising event, Courage Night, benefiting the BCAUSE (Breast Cancer and U Support and Encouragement) support group in Hartford County.
"When riding in the Tour de Pink, there were many hills that I didn't think I could conquer," says Ms. Yori. "Each time I was faced with one, there would be someone there to coach, push, or encourage me to the top. Each of the hills I climbed represented the challenges that I now face. One by one, I conquered the hills as I will conquer Breast Cancer."
