--- 100 construction workers don pink hard hats as a call to action to millions of women and men in support of EMCOR's 'Protect Yourself' campaign ---
EMCOR UK workers grouped
together on the station concourse to form the figure 46,000 - the
number of people who pass through the station during the average
working day, and the same number of women diagnosed with breast cancer
every year.

OCTOBER 1, 2009 EMCOR UK today announces its support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A campaign encouraging people to 'Protect Yourself - Be Breast Aware' will be launched at St Pancras International on Thu 1 Oct at 10.30am to reach out to the 46,000 people who pass through the station during the average working day – the same number diagnosed with breast cancer every year. Construction workers will wear pink hard hats and form themselves into the shape of this number, serving as a call to action to millions of women in support of EMCOR&as "Protect Yourself" Campaign. EMCOR UK provides engineering services, facilities management and sustainable business solutions for a diverse range of private and public sector organisations.
EMCOR workers will be donning pink hard hats across the country throughout October, and the company is raising thousands of pounds for Breast Cancer Care by donating £10 for every pink hard hat worn. Millions more women will also be reached by the campaign through the hundreds of EMCOR workers donning pink hard hats at buildings built and managed by EMCOR across the country for the duration of the month. Fundraising at sites across the country will also be taking place.
The eye-catching sight of construction workers in their pink hard hats is designed to raise awareness amongst the millions of women who use and pass by the airports, hospitals, shopping centres, colleges and other UK buildings which EMCOR manages or constructs throughout the country.
Diane Whyte, a valued member of the EMCOR team who has survived breast cancer, knows only too well how important being breast aware is:
"I had no history of breast cancer in my family, so when I heard it was cancer I was in complete shock, but knew I had to just pick myself up and carry on; working at EMCOR and keeping busy made it easier to cope. I survived – one of the lucky ones. I caught it early." Diane added: "My message to you is this: self breast examination is extremely important and if you find a lump, see your doctor immediately as early diagnosis is crucial. Without that, I may not have been here today."
Mr. Keith Chanter, CEO, EMCOR UK, said: "Many of us will be, or have been, touched by breast cancer at some point in our lives – whether it's a relative, friend or a valued colleague we've supported through this terrible disease such as Diane – it's the most common cancer in the UK. So we're delighted to be supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and couldn't think of a better way of raising awareness than the unusual sight of hundreds of construction workers up and down the country wearing pink hard hats! Thankfully, our employees thought the same, and we've had a tremendous response, with hundreds of them keen to be swapping their usual head gear for a pink version and helping spread the message to women everywhere to 'Protect Yourself – Be Breast Aware."
EMCOR – the slogan of which is to Build. Power. Service. Protect – is the engineering services and facilities management company which worked on the £800 million restoration of St Pancras International and is currently refurbishing St Pancras Chambers, for Manhattan Loft Corporation with LCR, into a 5 star 244 Renaissance Marriott hotel and 67 private apartments.
EMCOR UK's parent company, EMCOR Group Inc., is a major supporter of breast cancer awareness and through its 76 subsidiaries – of which EMCOR UK is one – events will be taking place raising awareness and fundraising for breast cancer awareness across the US, Canada and the UK.
