EMCOR Group (UK) Awarded Contract Extension From British Airways, Continuing 18-Year Partnership

14th February 2011

EMCOR Group (UK) is pleased to announce that it has extended its facilities management contract with British Airways. The duration of the new £50m contract is three years; scope of work will include the provision of hard and soft facilities management services across key British Airways' property including Terminal 5; which sees 25 million passengers annually. EMCOR Group (UK) provides facilities management and engineering services to a diverse range of private and public sector organisations.

EMCOR has worked for British Airways since 1992; current provision of services includes facilities management services to circa 500,000 square metres of facilities across numerous buildings, including airport passenger lounges, industrial buildings, cargo centres, hangars, offices, and British Airways' 280-acre Waterside headquarters.

Under the contract extension, EMCOR's scope of work will remain broad, and include mechanical and electrical services, maintenance of aircraft support systems, building fabric maintenance, cleaning services, and landscaping. The contract extension also includes energy management. The on-site team has worked closely with British Airways Property Services to reduce energy use by around 20% across its property portfolio, resulting in a significant impact on its annual energy costs and supporting the airline's wider, industry-leading target of reducing net CO2 emissions by 50% by 2050. Since April 2007 EMCOR has helped British Airways reduce CO2 emissions by 20,000 tonnes, the equivalent to heating almost 6,000 UK homes each year.

Nick Morris, Managing Director, EMCOR Facilities Services commented: "We are delighted with this contract award which extends our long and successful relationship with British Airways. We have worked hard to remain flexible whilst continuing to improve our service offering and aligning ourselves to British Airways' long-term strategy to ensure value at every level."

EMCOR works in partnership with and as a trusted supplier to British Airways through the provision of added value services, helping it to meet its business and strategic objectives. An example of this is EMCOR's PAS 55 accreditation which is the standard for optimised management of physical assets and infrastructure and provides clear requirements for joined-up, optimised and whole-life asset management systems. EMCOR was one of the first facilities management companies to gain PAS 55 accreditation which it did at British Airways' Terminal 5 operation.

Vance Williamson, Head of Property Services, British Airways said: "EMCOR was selected for its commitment to a partnership approach in managing risk and have a track record of driving down costs year-on-year. He added: "EMCOR has made a significant contribution to British Airways energy management programme, improving the energy performance across the property portfolio, and beating the initial 2010 target. We will continue to work together to build on this encouraging start and address the challenges ahead."
