EMCOR Group (UK) Awarded New Facilities Management Contract To Help Department of Health Deliver Cost and Efficiency Savings

31st January 2011

EMCOR Group (UK) is delighted to announce it has secured a major facilities management contract with the Department of Health (DH), continuing a longstanding relationship, which started in 2001. The new seven-year contract, which has an option to run for an additional three years, is for the delivery of integrated facilities management services at four DH sites, including its Headquarters in Whitehall - the London base for DH ministers. Throughout the term of the contract, EMCOR will work with the DH to deliver significant cost and efficiency savings across the estate. EMCOR UK provides facilities management and engineering services to a diverse range of private and public sector organisations.

The contract, which started in December 2010, covers more than 75,000 square metres of DH office buildings across England. More than 140 EMCOR employees will deliver total facilities management services to sites in London and Lancashire. EMCOR will deliver core activities, including energy and waste management, manned guarding, cleaning, porterage, messenger services, reception, help desk, mechanical, electrical and fabric maintenance, relocation services, horticulture, pest control and project, asset and CAD (Computer Aided Design) management.

EMCOR was selected as a result of its strong track record in managing government facilities and for its proven ability to deliver innovation and continuous improvement. EMCOR is implementing a number of effective support systems, which it will utilise in managing the contract, to provide a range of tangible benefits, such as reducing the number of suppliers and forming close relationships with suppliers to guarantee service delivery. Leveraging such techniques, EMCOR will work closely with the DH to assist this key Government department in delivering significant cost and efficiency savings.

Nick Morris, Managing Director for EMCOR Facilities Services, said: "We enjoy longstanding relationships with several clients in the government sector and have worked with the Department of Health for a number of years. This is testament to our reputation for consistently delivering both operational and cost efficiencies. The Comprehensive Spending Review has been positive for our business, as we have the capability and knowledge to deliver cost-effective and innovative facilities services for our clients, as well as providing total flexibility throughout the development of the contract."

John Ryder, Head of Accommodation and Building Services for the Department of Health, commented: "We are delighted to start this new agreement with EMCOR and continue our collaborative working relationship. EMCOR has the depth of knowledge and experience necessary to deliver a contract that meets our requirements, and we are confident that they will be a huge driver in our efficiency and cost-saving regime."

EMCOR works in partnership with its customers to continually develop and shape its services and support the efficiency of their organisations. EMCOR was the first facilities management provider to be awarded PAS 11000 by the British Standards Institution - the world's first relationship management standard for creating and maintaining successful business-to-business partnerships. In December 2010, PAS 11000 became a British Standard.
